MSi MOS Quick Start Guide to In Application Activities
- Simulation Practice and Quiz activities: Simulations are web-based and do not require Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel installed. Ideal for Chromebook or tablet users, or if you do not have Microsoft applications on your computer.
- InApp Practice activities: Provide step-by-step instructions and animations. Scores are shown at the end to help determine readiness for the graded assessment (Quiz); these scores are not part of your grade report.
- InApp Practice and Quiz activities: Require the application software to be installed on your computer.
Step 1: Set up your Download Folder
- Set up a folder on your desktop, or in a location your teacher recommends.
- You will download Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files to work on; keep them in one location for easy access.
Step 2: Select your Activity
- Choose the Practice or Quiz InApp activity.
- Choose to work in the application, or select a simulation activity.
- Some activities may only be available as a Simulation; this will be noted in the course.
Step 3: Download the InApp Activity File
- Click the “Click here to download” button and save the file to your designated download folder.
Step 4: Start Working in the Application
- Open the file, and select “Enable Editing”.
- Turn off Autosave.
Step 5: Add the MSi Courseware Add-in
- On the Ribbon, select the Insert tab.
- In the Add-ins subgroup, select "Get Add ins".
- In the Office Add-ins dialog box, search for "MSi".
- Select "Add" to install the Add-in, then select "Continue".
Step 6: Open the MSi Courseware Instruction Panel
- If the Add-in does not appear in your document, select the Insert tab.
- In Add-ins, select the “My Add-ins” dropdown and "See All…".
- Select MSi Courseware and click Add.
- After adding, go to the Home tab. The MSi Courseware icon will be in the Commands Group.
Step 7: Sign into the MSi Courseware Instruction Panel
- Open the MSi Courseware Instruction Panel and sign in using your course login credentials.
- Close all other application windows when working in the MSi InApp.
- Any additional files required will be located here.
- If a related file is a .jpg or .png, open the graphic then right-click to save.
Step 9: Required Tasks to Complete
- Each InApp Practice activity has a “Required tasks to complete” area.
Step 10: Begin the Activity
- Each step includes a Gif showing detailed instructions.
Step 11: Dialog Boxes in Activity
- Once you open a dialog box, you won't be able to scroll or view animations. Watch instruction gifs before opening boxes.
Step 12: Detach the InApp MSi Instruction Panel
- You can detach and move the panel anywhere on the screen by dragging it from the top.
- Double click to dock it back to its original location.
Step 13: Restarting an InApp Lesson
- To restart, close the application and reopen a fresh file from the MSi Learning Management System course page.
Step 14: Check My Work
- Select the “Check My Work” button anytime to see your progress. Close the Current Score section by selecting the X.
Step 15: Continue After Complete
- When the lesson is done, select Continue.
Step 16: Close Practice Complete Box
- In the Practice Complete box, select Close.
Step 17: Closing the Application
- Close out the application by selecting the X at the top of the document.
- If prompted to save changes, select "Don't Save".
